Gift giving is my favorite thing in the world. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but I try to put thought and/or effort into my gifts. These are what I came up with for my friends this year.
Painted ornaments are not a new thing. You could Pinterest search it and find hundreds of pins. So this isn’t anything groundbreaking, just my own take on it. First, I started with clear glass ornaments and a selection of acrylic paint. I used these iridescent ornaments and acrylic paint in black, gold and silver.
Next take off the silver tops of the ornament and artfully pour your paint into the ornament and swirl it around until all areas are covered. This doesn’t have to be technical. In fact, I love that each ornament came out different. It’s better if your paint is a bit thinner (it will swirl and mix easier) but if not just be patient. Continue adding and swirling paint until you’re satisfied with the final product.
Finally, turn your ornaments over and let the excess paint flow out of them. Trust me, it just adds unnecessary weight to the ornaments and it will never dry. Put the silver tops back into place and there you have it! I really like the way these turned out, especially with the iridescence. It almost looks like a beautiful oil slick, or something. Other than acrylic paint, you could also use nail polish, or I’ve even seen it done with bits of crayons and a hair dryer! The sky is the limit with these, so let your creativity soar.
